Gardening – A How-To Series on a Child’s Garden

Welcome to a new series here at Sonbeams! Our family is so… excited this year – God has given us the place we’ve longed for, a place with room to have a garden. :)

This will be our first attempt at an actual garden in something besides planters, and we have a lot to learn. We have several reasons for wanting to have our own garden, and some might be the same that you and your child have!

#1 – We want to have fresh, organic fruits and vegetables without the worry of chemicals and GM foods. If you aren’t familiar with GM foods (genetically modified foods), I would highly recommend visiting www.mercola.com and signing up for his newsletter. Dr. Mercola has a lot of wisdom in natural health, and has alerted our family of many dangers in the food industry today.

#2 – We want the pride and satisfaction of growing things ourselves. Okay, well – I do. :)

#3 – We want to teach our children how to live off of the land gave us. There might be a point in time where the world ’stands still’, and there won’t be any way to get to stores, or food be delivered to the stores.

#4 – It will give us something to work on together as a family vs. the children becoming bored sitting indoors all of the time. It feels good to get out and do something!

I’d like to invite YOU to join us as we grow our garden over the next few months. I’m no expert, so I’m hoping some of you will throw your two cents in to maybe help us some. Join us with step 1 – preparing your garden spot – next week!

Ready, set, GROW!
