Getting Started – Letter A, Number 0, Color Red

Filed under: Hands On, Letters, Music, Numbers, Our Schooling, Sample Lesson Guides — Candace @ 11:06 pm

Many of you are about to start the school year, and a few of you probably already have! Although we ourselves are packing up and moving in 2 weeks, I’m going to go ahead and begin posting a series. Hopefully I can get a few posts typed up in advance so the move won’t throw me off! :)

What I’d like to do this year on the Sonbeams blog is give a little insight to everyone of what’s going on that week in the Sonbeams curriculum. And members, coming soon will be new additions to the curriculum that you’ll receive access to at no additional charge – even members from last year.

Here we go – It’s going to be a great, fun year as we learn more about our God as well as school! Remember, this is just a PREVIEW sample of one of the lessons – we learn lots more throughout the week.

Week 1 – Letter A/a, Number 0, Color Red

Bible verse – “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God”, Romans 3:23

A“ll have sinned. This means everyone, no one left out. How many are perfect (besides Jesus)? None, 0!

What is the required price of sin? Death, the shedding of blood. What color is blood? Red.

We have a Saviour that died and shed His blood to pay for our sins. Do you know His name? His name is Jesus. God can forgive us for “A“ll our sins when we ask forgiveness through His Son, and “A“ll our sins are wiped away/ forgiven/ forgotten! How many sins are left after Jesus washes us clean? 0!

Activity -

(For this activity/ lesson, you’ll need a white (waterproof) bowl or plate and some pepper)

Begin by sharing that when we are born, our hearts are pure and clean. We are as clean as the white plate we have in front of us. It doesn’t take long for our human nature to cause us to sin. Sin starts out little by little, from the time we are very small children. (Begin shaking a little pepper onto the plate)

Before long, our hearts are dirty with sin. (What are some ways we sin?) As much as we might try to be good or make ourselves clean, we can’t do that. (Ask your child to try to wipe away the pile of pepper that you’ve shaken onto the plate with their hand. They won’t be able to get every last piece, and even if they are close, their hands will be covered in pepper. It’s impossible to get rid of it all, just as it is with sin.)

God saw this, that sinful man needed a Saviour. He sent His Son, Jesus, to pay the price for our sins. By the shedding of His blood (red) on the cross, our sins can be washed away forever! (Now place your plate under running water. What happens to the pepper? It’s all washed away!)

Be Blessed!

Mrs. Candace
